Julia Schafer, of Gaven, Queensland, builds a cute answer to an acute shortage of pollinators in her garden.
The new eggplants I grew from seed are finally sporting the most gorgeous purple flowers, but, alas, no aubergines are to be seen. The flowers bloom, then one by one they wither and drop, which is so sad considering the prolific eggplant I harvested from the previous crop (and was able to make into the most delicious Kasundi, a Moroccan-inspired chutney). Unfortunately, the evidence is clear: we have a distinct lack of bees in our garden...
